Submodalities are the Interface between God and Our Experience of God.

A few years ago, I had a conversation with a friend now deceased and we were talking about how exactly to know about God, and whether it would be possible to know God directly. We decided there would have to be some kind of conduit or interface between our animal beings, and the spiritual creator. NLP opened my eyes to an important aspect of how the mundane temporal and spiritual timeless worlds would communicate if they could.

The NLP founders borrowed heavily from Psycho-Cybernetics, though it is hardly mentioned. I want to share some of my insights from the New Psycho-Cybernetics, which I've just completed for the third time. My sense is that whether or not NLP came along, Psycho-Cybernetics had a lot to offer by way of enduring concepts and exercises, which when compared side-by-side with NLP is hardly distinguishable. NLP places more emphasis on language models, but the structure of nearly all NLP interventions were identified in the '60s by Maxwell Maltz.

Burn The Man!

Last night I met up with a friend I met through a mastermind group, and who is also an NLPer at heart. He was on a trek to the Burning Man event in the Black Rock Desert of Nevada, stopping in Utah on the way there from the East Coast.

We had a great time eating and talking about manifesting great things, and in modeling great individuals and social ideas that actually work. World-class stuff. He was really excited to be rubbing shoulders with some of the iconic leaders of internet marketing while there, and as I became more and more interested in that story, I also became more intrigued about the story of Burning Man, itself. A few years back, I had seen a small vignette of Burning Man on HBO, but when I went out to their website, it was clear that the event is growing tremendously, while its meaning continues to deepen and reach a world-wide audience.

It's always a slippery slope to try to dissect a great leader of anything, because it brings out the fight in people, but I couldn’t resist replying to a Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) forum post on whether Richard Bandler could be modeled. Here is my irreverent reply:

NLP Practitioners everywhere LOVE the movie Inception. Have you seen it yet? I've seen it twice already. Now, this is an exciting movie packed with twist and turns, interwoven layers and levels, slippery slopes, conflict and peril at every level! It's an NLP Practitioner's delight! The movie outlines several structures and levels within our individual and collective unconscious minds. However, possibly the most interesting aspect of the movie is the idea of inception itself. It was the goal and driver for the entire adventure. Let's explore the power of an idea...

As I network and work to build a grass roots community that can use aspects of NLP with autism, I find it very powerful to work with metaphors to get the creative juices flowing in myself and in the people I meet.

Like me, you may have friends and connections on a mission to “raise consciousness”, as though this would be the solution to the world’s problems. Other friends of mine never give consciousness a thought, or simply just dismiss the topic of consciousness as something new age people talk about a lot.
