If addiction recovery were easy, we would have all recovered a long time ago. Neurolinguistic Programming (NLP) can help, but addiction recovery requires a village. A strong support system to reinforce the replacement of addictive strategies with more resourceful ones.

Addictions are compulsions that take over a person's life at the expense of time, money, relationships, employment, and self-esteem. A person with an addiction will do irrational behaviors in order to feed the addiction, and they can't stop it alone.

Addictions are both psychologically and neuro-chemically based. The chemical nature of all addictions requires time in order for new chemical balances to be achieved and stabilized, at the same time that a person is building a set of psychological and social strategies to live after the addiction.

Richard Bandler is said to have quit smoking in 10 minutes, but that is the exception, and due having developed robust psychological strength and flexibility in advance of the decision to change. He is a rare individual able to use NLP on himself to get those kinds of results. Most of us need the support of other people to overcome a chemical dependency.

This book will address NLP in addiction recovery contexts, where it is quite powerful when combined with real-world support systems. NLP is not a substitute for medical advice or for AA, but NLP can offer great strategies, and has been instrumental in therapists and coaches help people:
