Joseph Campbell has helped the world recontextualize that way we see ourselves and others, by borrowing from myths and legends of cultures the world over. His message, we are more alike than unlike each other.
The Hero's Journey is a universal story wherein each of us leaves or is pushed out of the naivete of our familiar surroundings, feelings, circumstances or beliefs, whereupon we have to rapidly learn to draw upon the support of strange helpers and reach deep within ourselves to cope with the new situation, then after some time we return to be able to tell the tale.
