Sensory Experience

Experience happens via the senses. The five senses comprise the interface between our central nervous system and the external world. The NLP terms for the 5 senses are:

  • Visual (sight)
  • Auditory (hearing)
  • Kinesthetic (touch, pressure, heat, balance, feelings)
  • Olfactory (smell)
  • Gustatory (taste)

There is also a sixth sense in NLP, which is:

  • Auditory Digital (self-talk)

Our senses produce neurological events, some of which are encoded as memories (especially when mixed with strong emotions), and others discarded as incidental information not worthy of memory.
