Hi everyone! I have a question. I am a very visual person, as my predicates tell me, but I have difficulty "seeing" any pictures in my head. I find that all I really allow myself to notice is my verbal discussion of things. I began meditating about 10 years ago, and through that, trained myself to stop the voices...lol...so now, when I go into trance, it becomes a void. This has made trying the exercises very diffucult...the pictures I can get, are always very dark and hazy, and I haven't yet succeeded in being aware of making the changes to the pictures that the exercises seem to call for. I know that there is a rich and wonderful world inside my head, but I haven't learned how to fully access it.
As a quick aside, I woke up in the middle of the night tonite with the realization of the exact time I started blacking out my visualizations and moved to only listening...I was about 5, and I came to the conclusion that "thinking" meant talking to myself. So that's what I did, being the smart boy I am!
If anyone has any suggestions, I would appreciate them. Thanks

I found myself in a similar situation only in opposition. When I began to make the changes to my life I found it very easy to visualize the memories I desired to work on. Yet as I continued to make progress I found myself in difficult situations because I, for some reason, could not visualize certain things. My remedy for this was finding the emotional tie and looking for the visual detail. My practice with this began with creating future memories. This gave me the opportunity to invest in great detail all of my senses. This whole process is finding a manner in which to connect our physical world with the Kinesthetic self. When I think of things that are visually pleasing I place more emphasis on the emotion involved as this is the catalyst to creating balance. The purpose of this information, for me, is to change the way I feel about something. In order to do so I must identify the current state I am in. Visual references are of great value too. Prior to closing my eyes I will invest in paying very close attention to something I am looking at. Noticing fine detail. Then upon closing my eyes I recreate the image with thought. These are simple sense stimuli that stir up the information stored in the sense area.
The sense of sight asks the question "Why"(reasons, concept, ideas). Our visual sense also has structure involving decision making. It's an objective sense. You say that you shifted your focus more to auditory. Can you visualize the words you think?
